Empowering
Communities,
Protecting Wildlife
Engaging local people to improve their lives whilst reducing ,
threats to the African golden cat and other wildlife.
What we do
We work with local communities to conserve the African golden cat in Uganda.
We host and coordinate the African Golden Cat Conservation Alliance (AGCCA)— a continental
effort to conserve the African golden cat across the species geographical range. Our philosophy is TIME.
Identify THREATS
We combine ecological and socio-economic research with indigenous knowledge to identify threats.
INTERVENE to reduce threats
We engage and empower local people to implement threat reduction activities for the African golden cat.
MONITOR interventions
We track the implementation of the interventions.
EVALUATE impact
We estimate the population status of the African golden cat.

Community Led Conservation
Empowering Communities
We work hand in hand with local communities to establish community-led financially feasible
(and locally acceptable) conservation programs that improve livelihoods while inspiring local
support for conservation.
How We Do It
We combine cutting-edge and robust biological research, social-economic research and local people engagement.

Camera trapping
Using motion-triggered cameras to automatically record pictures and videos of the African golden cat. We then apply robust data analytics to estimate the number and learn about the secretive lives of African golden cats.

Local people as protectors
We actively engage local people to identify threats and threat reduction interventions.
Piglets for bushmeat "P4B"
We engage and empower local people through pig farming (“pig seed banks”) to improve household income, dissuade poaching, promote community policing and generate social pressure against poaching.
Our Programs
Conserving the African golden cat in Uganda and across their geographical range
We host and coordinate the African Golden Cat Conservation Alliance, a network of African nationals spearheading the conservation of the African golden cat, together with their local communities, in 19 of the 21 known species geographical range.
Our partners
We work with local people living at the frontline of protected areas, which African golden cats call home. We thank our financial partners;
